June 5th & 6th – Mammoth Cave National Park, KY

We traveled through rural Tennessee and Kentucky to get to Mammoth Cave and are glad to report that small town USA is alive and well.  We went through some very cute towns.  Mammoth Cave is the world’s largest known cave – 365 miles have been surveyed and they think there could be 600 more miles.  They have been doing tours of the cave since 1816.  Our tour started by walking down almost 300 stairs (you see I was smiling at the top when we began) to get 250 feet below the surface.  The inside is not so much pretty caverns as it is interesting cave (although you can see from the pictures there are some pretty formations).   The tour is not for the claustrophobic, but it is pretty cool.
