The weather in Washington DC and Baltimore was cloudy, so we went for a drive to the shore today. We stopped in Ocean City, MD and ate at Sneaky Pete’s. It is a very cute place right on the water. The first picture below shows the entrance to the board walk. Leslie had the Sneaky Pete’s specialty sandwich which is crab cakes on pretzel bread with a special sauce. Don got the chef’s special which was crab cakes on English muffins. They were both good and it was nice not to have to work so hard for the delicious crab.
Our goal was Assateague Island National Seashore which is located off of Maryland’s eastern shore in the Atlantic. Leslie wanted to go because of reading Misty of Chincoteague when she was young. The book is all about the wild ponies of Assateague. We saw wild ponies everywhere, even walking down the street. The beach is beautiful there and the waves are big enough for surfing. We saw an interesting surfer and had a good time watching him surf (see below). The island is very rustic to keep the ponies wild. We only saw the Maryland end — there is a whole other park on the Virginia end of the island (which is where the book actually took place). We will have to make it there on another trip.
