November 21st, 2012 – Valley of Fire, NV

While in Las Vegas, we escaped one day, and drove about one hour northeast to Valley of Fire State Park.  Wow!  It derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park’s attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun’s rays.  Alas, we could not stay long enough to see this, so we will have to come back, but not in the summer, when it hits 125.
