Several weeks ago, we joined a local hiking club, and yesterday Don took his first Tucson hike (Leslie was busy volunteering) on the Finger Rock Trail (but only went as far as the Finger Rock Spring). The trail to the Finger Rock Spring proceeds through a lush Sonoran landscape of Saguaro, Ocotillo, Mesquite, and Cholla cacti. This portion of the overall trail is rated a D, which means easy, and is less than 4 miles and has less than a 500 foot accumulated elevation gain. If you continued on the trail all the way the way to Finger Rock, a 200 foot rock formation, with the extended finger at about 80 feet, you would have hiked about 6 miles, and experienced about a 4,200 foot accumulated elevation gain.
