May 1st, 2013 – Goggingen, Bavaria, Germany

We decided to take part in the activities of the German Maibaumfest (May 1st).  It is like our Labor Day and everyone has the day off.  We walked to Goggingen (about 4 miles (one way) from where we were staying – are you impressed?)  to see the parade and see the May Tree.  All of the cities erect a May Tree on the evening before, and everyone stays all night to guard it from other towns (really to have a chance to eat and drink beer).  Following the parade, the drummer walked up to us and asked to hold the drum because he was very warm.  The last picture is the town eating and drinking more beer following the parade.

Ummmm – lets see now… guess it would have taken me about an hour and twenty min. to walk that distance. That should have been a ‘piece of cake’ for you two! Sounds like a lot of fun but it looks like it was cold there?? Leslie maybe you can join The Salvation Army and take the drummer’s job 😀
