June 14th – 17th, 2013 – Kansas City (and vicinity), MO

We had to continue our streak of stopping at universities and buying t-shirts, so we went to Kansas State (Wildcats) and Kansas University (Jayhawks).  Thanks to Don’s persistence in asking, we got to go into the Kansas University basketball arena.  It was pretty cool to see a field house from the 50s where so much great basketball has been played (even though Leslie hates to admit it because the Kansas fans were obnoxious at a Gamecock game).

Once we got to Kansas City we had a great visit with our youngest son, Matthew, and his girlfriend Danielle (photo with the Lego girl).  We had some delicious barbecue at Jax Stax (if you are ever in KC you have to go).  We also went to Oklahoma Joe’s which most people in KC swear is the best barbecue, but for those of you in Greenville, SC – Bucky’s has them beat hands down for pulled pork.  Kansas City is called the city of fountains and we got to see a lot of them.  We also went to a nice aquarium that is located in the Crown Center Mall area (Crown as in Hallmark Cards which is headquartered there).   We also went to the River Market one of the largest and most enduring public farmers’ markets in the Midwest.

Matthew looks like he has changed so much – especially when I think back to how he looked when we first moved here. People brag about the N. C. Barbecue being the best but I agree with you – Bucky’s can’t be beat! I love going to the big Farmer’s Markets… bet I would have loved this one. Have you been to the one in Hollywood (corner of Third and Fairfax) – maybe it’s Los Angeles – whatever?? Loved going there with Amanda on her graduation trip.
