After our Thanksgiving Holiday in Greenville, South Carolina, where we visited our family and friends, launched Leslie’s 2nd career with Michelin (short one – 4 months), and experienced cold wet weather we headed south to visit Don’s sister Fran and her husband Bruce in sunny Coral Springs, Florida. On our last day in Coral Springs, we delivered gifts from Fran’s church to a Haitian Catholic school in Miami and then visited the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
Vizcaya, is the former villa and estate of businessmen James Deering, of the Deering McCormick-International Harvester fortune, on Biscayne Bay in the present day Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami, Florida. The early 20th century Vizcaya estate also includes: extensive Italian Renaissance gardens; native woodland landscape; and a historic village outbuildings compound. The landscape and architecture were influenced by Veneto and Tuscan Italian Renaissance models and designed in the Mediterranean Revival architecture style, with Baroque elements. Fran and Leslie are in the 4th picture below.
