May 16th, 2014 – Kings Canyon National Park (Day 3) – Springville, CA

Yesterday we were in the valley all day, today we decided to go up on top.  We hiked to the top of Big Baldy Mountain which is 8,211 feet tall.  It was a beautiful hike and when we got to the top we had a 360 degree view of the beautiful mountains – well worth the effort.  The last picture shows a downed tree that we found out later  (after watching a video at the visitor center) had been shredded by black bears looking for bugs.  Probably good that we did not know that while we were hiking,  because we were the only ones on the trail the entire time – so no one else for the bears to get :).  Right now, we are sitting in a parking lot so we have an internet signal so we can send the blog (someone…we will not say who (Don)… is a fanatic about getting the blog out.)

Loved these pictures… and our grandson would have loved being with you. We took him to the top of Stone Mt. once and he begged and begged to stay. He loved hiking along the high ridge of Grand Canyon as well. And I am glad that ‘someone’ is a fanatic about getting the blog out. Funny…. Don had just read day 1 and day 2 and asked where was day 3 and I told him we didn’t have it. He went out in the sun room to read the paper and I came back to check my emails and there was day 3. So now I can call him back to read about it. I love the views from up on top and am so glad the bears didn’t get you. I guess if you had seen some Leslie would have been trying to pet them 😦
