July 13th, 2014 – International Rose Test Garden – Portland, OR

The International Rose Test Garden was founded in 1917 and is the oldest continuously operated public rose test gardenin the United States, exemplifying Portland’s nickname – the City of Roses.  There are over 10,000 plants and 500 varieties of roses.  New rose cultivars (a plant or grouping of plants selected for desirable characteristics that can be maintained by propagation) are continually sent to the garden from many parts of the world and are tested for color, fragrance, disease resistance and other attributes.   The smell was amazing and as you can see, the roses were beautiful.

Cool! Who knew there was a “testing” place for roses?!

Absolutely gorgeous every last one of them and also the human one standing by the pink ones in the first picture. I can almost smell them from here. I know both of you had to enjoy seeing and smelling those!
