We spent a few days pretending to be city dwellers with our real city dwellers – our son Christopher and his wife Amanda. It is really cool to live downtown in a big city and be able to walk to everything, see the tall buildings, have access to a lot of culture, history, restaurants, etc. The first two days, they had to go to school, so we spent the days walking around downtown, shopping and eating at the Reading Terminal Market (which we absolutely love). It was neat to see big department stores with store windows decorated with different scenes for Christmas (just like in the movies).
On the weekend, they took us to a little theater to see Homesman (an interesting movie that prompted some good discussion afterwards) and to some local restaurants that they like (very yummy). We also saw a play called Outside Mullingar which was very good. It was great to be able to go to some of the places they talk about and see “their Philadelphia”. The last picture shows the beautiful view of downtown Philadelphia from a building near their apartment. We had a fabulous time.
