Today we met the tour group at the airport and were transported to Stresa. We were on our own today because most of the people in the group flew in today so they had built in some time for them to rest. Stresa is on the shores of Lake Maggiore, which is the second largest lake in Italy. The first two pictures are from the roof of our hotel. They have a nice little bar and pool up there. It is mainly a tourist town and it is easy to see why as the area is very beautiful. We walked to a small botanical garden and zoo called Parco della Villa Pallavicino. They were having a tulip festival. It is very interesting the plants they have here – azaleas, magnolia trees, rhododendrons, palm trees – none of these plants would grow as far north in the U.S (latitude wise). You can see the snow covered Alps from here – our theory is that the water keeps the place temperate.
