May 13th & 14th, 2015 – Augsburg – Germany

One of the reasons that we came to Germany was to help celebrate Don’s aunt’s 80th birthday.  In the German tradition (at least from our perspective), we met in a parking lot, drank a toast and then walked an hour (3rd picture) to the restaurant where the party was held.  The party was a lot of fun and a lot of food – a 4 hour buffet which we finished off with a huge pretzel sandwich later in the day (it was at least 2 1/2 feet by 2 1/2 feet).

The first picture is from downtown Augsburg in front of the Rathaus (City Hall).  The next one came from a grocery stop with Don’s uncle – yes they sell small kegs in the grocery store.  We got to visit Don’s relatives, play canasta with some serious questionable German rules, played a German card game called sechsundsechzig (66) and did a lot of walking.  On Sunday night we walked 4 miles (round trip) to go to a restaurant.  We would be in great shape if we lived here.

We were not good luck for the FC Bayern (soccer team) as they lost 3 times while we were in Germany including the semi final game in the European soccer championship to Barcelona.  Some of Don’s relatives were not too happy about that.  The last picture is part of Don’s family – a group shot after a lot of food and a lot of alcohol on his aunt’s birthday (middle in the front).

Oh my goodness – this sounds like so much fun with all these relatives. Just make sure you don’t get addicted to living over there and decide to not come back home. I know you have probably told me before but I’m getting forgetful these days….. is this Bennie’s sister?
