July 19th, 2015 – Wrangell-St. Elias National Park (Kennicott Glacier) – Alaska

The Kennicott Glacier is 27 miles long and up to 5 miles wide and you would not know it was a glacier unless someone told you.  It is totally covered in moraine (rocks and dirt) so it just looks like hills.  All of the brown looking hills in the pictures are part of the glacier.  We went kayaking at the toe of the glacier.  It was a beautiful sunny day and very peaceful.  It was just the guide and us and we could hear the glacier cracking and the water running off into the lake.  We also got to see a cinnamon bear (a black bear that is light brown).  We are not sure what he was doing there since there are no fish in the lake and no vegetation anywhere around (for berries).  Maybe he just came by to say hi.

You are getting to do the ‘neatest’ things…. and have your own private guide as well! VERY interesting pictures – I love that last one.
