February 26th, 2016 – Kauai, Hawaii (Day 1)

Our first full day in Hawaii, more specifically Kauai.  As the magnet on the refrigerator in our condo says “Another day in paradise.”  We drove around a bit to see some waterfalls and get a feel for some of the beaches.  The first picture is Opeaka’a Falls which is off the north branch of Wailua River (3rd picture).  The 4th picture is Wailua Falls which is best known as being the waterfall in the opening credits of the tv show “Fantasy Island.”

Don noticed as we drove around the island that all of the cars had license plates from the same state.  Such a comedian.  The 5th picture is Kealia beach which is near where we are staying.  There are chickens all over everywhere on this island.  The roosters are absolutely beautiful.  The 7th picture shows The Dolphin Fish Market in Hanalei.  Don had his first Ahi Poke (raw fish salad) here.  He said he could eat Poke every day.

After lunch we went to Hanalei Bay (next 3 pictures).  There was a storm brewing over the mountains, but we had a lovely walk on the beach.  We saw a bird several times today with a red head and a gray and white body.  We said it looked like a cardinal, but we have never seen a cardinal like that.  It turns out we are ornithologists –  it is a Red-Crested Cardinal.  The last picture is of the taro fields in Hanalei Valley.

    Leslie,

We were there many years ago and thought it was so beautiful too. Loved the pictures as always. Have a great time, (like you’re not already). Aloha!!

Love, love, love that you are there and enjoying all that greenery and beautiful scenes etc. That rooster looks just like the ceramic one that I have in my kitchen. I love the water falls as well… so pretty!
