We spent the weekend in Phoenix for the Arizona Masters State Swim Meet. Leslie’s swimming lessons paid off as she swam PRs in every event. If she can just hold these times until she is 70 she could be a state champion. The team won its 4th straight state championship with over 7,000 points (more than double what the second team had). The team has some excellent swimmers and also wins by sheer numbers (especially in the 75 and older age groups – which is inspiring for us).
On Saturday night we got take-out from Cornish Pasty Co. which we definitely recommend. A pasty originated as a way to feed miners in Cornwall England. They would put meats and vegetables into a pastry, fold it over and crimp the edges and bake it. The miners would hold the crimped edge, eat the pasty and then discard the crimped edge because they had arsenic on their hands. The Cornish Pasty Co. has taken it to a whole other level with over 20 different choices. We, however, ate the whole thing – way too yummy to waste (and our hands were clean.) We also threw in a picture of the great horned owl near our house sitting on her nest. When the babies are more visible we will get some more pictures.
