We had a beautiful morning for our cog railroad ride to the top of Pikes Peak. The railway is the highest in North America. The ride up is very nice and our tour guide gave us all kinds of information. The view up there is beautiful (although the air is quite thin).
Don took advantage of the sunshine and went to the Garden of the Gods to take some afternoon pictures. The Garden of the Gods’ red rock formations were created during a geological upheaval along a natural fault line millions of years ago. Archaeological evidence shows that prehistoric people visited Garden of the Gods about 1330 BC. At about 250 BC, Native American people camped in the park.
Larry, Sharon and Leslie went to the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center. It is a fossil museum primarily exhibiting fossil organisms of North America’s Late Cretaceous including dinosaurs, pterosaurs, marine reptiles, and fish. Since Don was not with us, we had to use the iPhone, so pictures are not so great. We had a great time though.
