February 26th, 2017 – La Fiesta de los Vaqueros – Tucson, Arizona

We made our annual trip with our friends to La Fiesta de los Vaqueros (The Party of the Cowboys).  The rodeo is a big thing around here – kids get off of school for 2 days to attend the parade and festivities.  This year was the 92nd year for the rodeo.  We went to the finals for the first time and were there early enough to catch the junior rodeo (first six pictures).  The kids that were in the finals were amazing.  In case you are wondering, the 2nd picture is a 4 year old riding a sheep.   None of the kids riding the sheep made it for very long, but it was a lot of fun to watch.

Since we were at the finals we got to see some of the top cowboys in the world.  Some of them made it look so easy, but top cowboys or not, they still struggled to stay on the bulls.  Leslie managed to need a nature break during the calf roping (she cannot stand to see the baby cows wrestled to the ground).  Due to the crowds that were there since it was the finals, she missed the entire event.

Once again, GREAT rodeo pix — MORE PIXS TO SELL! At this moment I can’t recall the famous lady rodeo photographer who did it for years and is now retired. So, you can take-over because this year’s pix are the greatest!

I just LOVE our rodeo even tho we’ve been to bigger/better/more official > rodeos in Wyoming. We got FREE tickets for the day of the parade (LOUSY > seats), but managed to sneak into GREAT seats. Wasn’t the weather just > perfect for a day at the rodeo (better than last year). My favorite part > of the rodeo (after the presenting of the flags) is the kids > mutton-busting. Last year we went to the rodeo in Sonoita, AZ to see one > of Nancy’s employee’s 5 year-old son ride the muttons. Screamed and cried > for all of two seconds, but got great pix of his first try (all decked-out > in official cowboy wear). Every time I go to the rodeo, I wish I were in > one of the events. >

Looks like you two are having great travels. I’m on to your next posting. You two make a great ream – once takes pix and the other does a fabulous job on the postings. Keep it up!

    With love, cjr
